Puerto Rico Braces For Maria

Three million American citizens are under a state of emergency as Hurricane Maria approaches Puerto Rico.

Still recovering from the impact of Hurricane Irma, the island is running low on supplies. "I mean, there's no water anywhere," said one San Juan resident. "I can't find water, I can't find ice, it's pretty intense."

The government is rationing basic provisions like water and baby formula, while others are competing for a limited supply of gas.

More than 60,000 customers are still without power from Irma as Maria approaches and some 3500 Irma evacuees from other Caribbean islands are still in shelters in Puerto Rico.

Governor Ricardo Rossello said yesterday that he fears the devastation Hurricane Maria will cause could be unprecedented. Forecasters say Maria could be the strongest storm to hit the island head on in decades.
