A Louisiana city is getting praise for being one of the best big cities in America, and given its reputation as an "It City," the shout-out comes as no surprise.

Condé Nast Traveler recently released its 2022 Readers' Choice Awards list for the best big cities around the country, and one popular destination in Louisiana managed to snag a spot on the list. According to the site, "enthusiasm for travel has never been higher," with nearly 250,000 readers responded to the survey to choose their choices for best small and big cities.

So which Louisiana city was chosen as one of the best big cities in the America?

New Orleans

New Orleans ranked No. 8 on the Readers' Choice of best big cities, beating out popular tourist havens like Seattle and Washington D.C. Here's what Condé Nast Traveler had to say:

"It's easy to experience New Orleans through its most popular attractions: Mardi Gras and Bourbon Street, Cafe due Monde (which is great, don't get us wrong), and Preservation Hall jazz (also fantastic). But there's so much more to this soulful city. Its Creole, Cajun, and French roots inform everything from the music on Frenchman Street to the food and cocktails in the French Quarter over to the Bywater. It's also worth exploring the revitalized Warehouse District, home to the city's Ace Hotel, where you could easily stumple on half a dozen excellent galleries all within a few blocks' radius, or spend a whole day in contemplation at the National WWII Museum."

Here are the Top 10 cities readers voted as the best big cities in the U.S.:

  1. Chicago
  2. Honolulu
  3. San Diego
  4. Nashville
  5. New York City
  6. Boston
  7. San Francisco
  8. New Orleans
  9. Washington, D.C.
  10. Seattle
