There's tornado damage reported across the metro area tonight.

St. Bernard Parish does not have power, and officials say several homes were destroyed by the storm. A house-by-house search is ongoing in Arabi after tonight's massive storm.

Parish President Guy McInnis reported one fatality in Arabi after the tornado.

The tornado swallowed up parts of the area with widespread damage left behind.

A wind guest of 59 miles per hour was reported on the Causeway bridge around 7:30 p.m. In St. Tammany Parish, there were reports of trees down at Highways 1088 and 36.

Trees have been knocked over, power lines have snapped, cars are upside down and buildings have been leveled.

The National Weather Service says three survey teams will be assessing damage on Wednesday, one near Arabi and the Lower 9th Ward, another on the Westbank near Gretna, and the third on the Northshore from Lacombe and to the northeast.
