The Miami area is experiencing flood conditions as a tropical rainstorm drenches south Florida.

News video shows flooded streets in Miami-Dade County, and vehicles getting stranded in the deep water.

Local reports say downtown Miami has recorded over seven inches of rain this morning.

The National Hurricane Center said Saturday morning the system had "gone the wrong way" in terms of organization, as it continued to fall apart overnight. However, the chance for Tropical Storm Alex remains on the table, as the center could reform off the eastern coast of Florida over Atlantic waters.

"Although deep-layer shear is expected to increase further, a shortwave trough moving eastward along the northern Gulf coast appears as though it will interact with the disturbance in about 24 hours and allow the expected newly formed low east of Florida to develop a more well-defined circulation than what we've seen over the past day or two," the NHC noted. "This trough interaction could also allow the system to intensify slightly over the next few days."
