Development Chances In Gulf Increase, No Direct Threat To Louisiana

The southwestern Gulf of Mexico could see a tropical depression form by early next week, the National Hurricane Center said Friday.

The system is not expected to have a direct impact to Louisiana, outside of increasing rain chances.

"A broad area of low pressure is forecast to form over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico late this weekend or early next week," said the NHC. "Environmental conditions appear conducive for gradual development of this system, and a tropical depression could form during the early or middle part of next week while it moves slowly westward or west-northwestward."

It's expected that the system would be steered towards Mexico and away from the Gulf Coast.
