Tropical Storm Watches Issued For Gulf System, No Direct Impacts To La.

Tropical storm watches are now up along part of the coast of Texas and northeast Mexico as the National Hurricane Center says the first named storm of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season is possibly close to forming.

As of Monday afternoon, the NHC says there is a strong possibility a system in the southern Gulf could become Tropical Storm Alberto by early Wednesday morning while noting there is a chance the system does not come together.

The abundant rainfall with the system could bring very heavy rains to parts of Texas and Mexico, while Louisiana is not expected to see direct impacts outside of increased rain chances through at least the middle of the week.

Some parts of the Texas coast could see up between 8 to 12 inches, with amounts of six to eight inches well inland.
